“Reading is magic. Writing? That’s work.“
Dear readers. I have a confession: I hate blogging. That seems heretical to be writing in what is literally the first blog post on this page, but there it is. There’s always other people out there who have incredibly detailed reviews. People who talk in great depth about topics. People who are eloquent and witty in just that combination that makes for an addicting blog post worth visiting all the time.
I can’t say that’s me. I haven’t had a TV in house since 2005, and while I do use streaming services the key qualifier would be “barely” – so much for movie and show reviews are thus out. Book reviewing is an art itself I’m not well versed in. And while I do get on many interesting soap boxes most of them, honestly, are on Twitter. Look dear blog, you can’t blame me – there has to be a second place.
So, here’s why me – a guy who doesn’t really like blogging – has a blog. It is meant as a supplement to my videos. I make weekly videos on Youtube – there’s a link at the top of this page. With every video, I will add some supplemental information here in a blog post for people to reference. They’re not meant to be articles that replace or stand in for the videos, they’re more meant to be additional information / behind the scenes trivia.
If you sign up for the e-mail list, I will send you an e-mail whenever the next video goes live with this information as well.
What can you expect in my videos? I talk about the craft of fiction – how to outline, how to pre-write, how to make interesting characters. There’s also less crafty but no less important topics like writing conventions and tips for getting the most out of them. I also get on soapboxes about marketing – that’s my day job so I have OPINIONS. Lastly, I also have some fun general videos that tackle such hard hitting questions as “How Many Bosoms are in the Wheel of Time?”
Now, this is my blog. I do reserve the right to talk about what I want. I might decide I DO feel like talking about shows. I might convert some of my Twitter threads to something more legible and archival.
Take a look around. I hope you find some resources you enjoy.
Cheers; be kind to yourselves.
